About
Some places feel like they sit on the edge of the world, and The Lion Inn is one of them. At 1,325 feet up on Blakey Ridge, the moors seem to roll out forever, and the road up feels like you’re slowly leaving everything behind.
The pub itself has that proper old-world charm, with thick stone walls, low beams, and winter fires. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet to unwind after a moorland walk, you can’t really go wrong up here. The food is pub classic, and Sunday roasts washed down with a good selection of real ales.
The silence outside at night is almost total, except for the odd gust of wind running over the ridge. It feels like a proper escape.
You’re perfectly placed for moorland walking here. The pub sits right on the old Rosedale Railway line, which makes a brilliant, easy path for dogs. It’s wide, mostly level, and gives you striking views across the valleys.
If you want something a bit longer, you can follow routes towards Rosedale, Farndale, or even pick up stretches of the Coast to Coast path.
