About
Martins Haven is situated near the village of Marloes on the southwestern tip of Pembrokeshire. This picturesque cove is steeped in maritime history, as it has long served as a launch point for boat trips to Skomer Island, renowned for its puffins and other seabirds. The area forms part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, celebrated for its rugged beauty and biodiversity. Its unspoiled charm and ties to the region’s natural heritage make it a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
Dog Access and Rules
Martins Haven allows dogs, but because it is within the Skomer Island Nature Reserve, you must keep your dog on a lead to protect the wildlife.
Unfortunately, as Skomer Island is a nature reserve, dogs are not permitted on the island itself.
Things To See & Do
While Martins Haven is a small pebble and rocky cove, the surrounding area offers plenty of adventures for you and your dog. The coastal paths are perfect for scenic walks, with breathtaking views over the sea and opportunities to spot seals and seabirds.
You have a couple of kilometres to walk around the peninsula and the nearby Deer Park, a National Trust site offering great views and ample space for your dog to roam on a lead. The clifftop path is a little uneven in places, and although this is called a deer park, it has never been home to any deer.
Access and Facilities
Martins Haven is easily accessible by car, with parking available at the nearby National Trust car park. From there, it’s just a short walk to the cove, making it convenient for a quick visit or a base for exploring the surrounding coastal paths. The site is well signposted from Marloes village, though it can get busy during peak season. Public transport options include the seasonal Puffin Shuttle from St. Davids.
As a natural and unspoiled spot, Martins Haven has minimal facilities. By the car park, Fisherman’s Cottage houses a small marine exhibition/visitor centre alongside a public toilet. You also have the Skomer Island information and ticket office, which contains information on the island and surrounding area.
To find food options, you will need to travel to one of the nearby villages, such as Marloes, Little Haven, or Dale.
