Tenby is a dog-friendly harbour town in Pembrokeshire with four great sandy beach areas:
- North Beach is a picturesque beach that features golden sands and the iconic Goscar Rock. Dogs are not allowed on North Beach from May 1st to September 30th.
- South Beach is a long stretch of sand that reaches towards Penally. South Beach allows dogs year-round, although a small part of the beach has restrictions between 1 May and 30 September (check local signs). This is the all-year-round beach for dogs.
- Castle Beach is nestled between Castle Hill and the East Cliff. Similar to North Beach, it has seasonal restrictions, with no dogs allowed from the 1st of May to the 30th of September. At low tide, it joins the South Beach, and a small part allows dogs on leads to access either the boat-launching pontoon or the beach to St Catherine’s Island.
- Harbour Beach, although small, has a lot of character and is situated close to the town centre. Dogs are only allowed on Harbour Beach during the winter months, from October 1st to April 30th.

Tenby’s beaches, renowned for their beauty and accessibility, are well-equipped with excellent facilities, making it a great destination for town beachgoers. All are just a short walk away from each other. Here’s what you can expect in terms of amenities at the town beaches in Tenby:
- North Beach offers public toilets and a seasonal lifeguard service. There is also a beach cafe where you can grab refreshments. The beach is easily accessible via the promenade, with steps or a slope leading down to it. It’s close to the town centre, making it convenient to walk from accommodation or local parking areas.
- South Beach is equipped with public toilets and has a lifeguard service during the summer months. There’s a beachfront cafe and restaurant, offering ideal spots for dining with a sea view. This beach is accessible via a gentle slope, which is friendly for buggies and wheelchairs. A large car park is situated close to the beach, making it easy to visit with family and beach gear in tow.
- Castle Beach during the summer has lifeguards on duty, and toilets are available. When the tide is out, it connects to St. Catherine’s Island, which can be explored during low tide. Access to Castle Beach is via a steep slipway or steps, depending on where you are coming from. It is located very close to the town centre, making it easy to access on foot.
- Harbour Beach is close to the town centre and really joins to North Beach. Facilities around Harbour Beach include public toilets and numerous cafes and shops within a short walking distance. Harbour Beach is easy to access, especially at low tide, when more of the beach is exposed. However, space can be limited at high tide.
