About
Lowestoft is located on the stunning Suffolk coast and offers golden sands, refreshing sea air, and scenic views, making it a delightful destination for dog owners. While South Beach has dog restrictions during peak summer, Lowestoft remains welcoming, with nearby beach and walking opportunities year-round.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are prohibited between the South Pier, southward to a point adjacent to the CEFAS building, from the start of May to the end of September.
This means you have a year-round dog-friendly stretch, also known as Pakefield Beach, running from the CEFAS building to the end of the houses and holiday park.
Things To See & Do
The main Lowestoft seafront runs southwards for 2 miles from the harbour’s south pier to the end of the houses at Pakefield. The beach is split by the dog-friendly Claremont Pier, a landmark that has entertained visitors since the early 20th century.
Beyond the main beach, we recommend exploring the Pakefield to Kessingland Beach stretch, which offers picturesque views and ample dog-running opportunities.
Access and Facilities
Reaching Lowestoft is straightforward. The town is well-connected by road via the A12 and A47, with ample parking near the beach. Lowestoft Railway Station is a short walk from South Beach, offering direct services to Norwich and Ipswich. For those using public transport, buses run regularly from surrounding areas, stopping close to the beach.
