About
Caswell Bay Beach is a gently sloping and sandy beach, located on the south Gower Coast, west of Langland Bay and Mumbles Head. Caswell Bay is one of those beaches that looks different every time you see it. Tucked away on the south side of the Gower Peninsula, it feels smaller than it is, hemmed in by cliffs and headlands. For families, it’s a safe spot with lifeguards, but for dog owners, it’s about knowing when the sand opens up and the seasonal rules change.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs aren’t allowed on Caswell Bay Beach from 1st May to 30th September. It’s a firm rule, and there are signs right by the entrances. Outside those summer months, it’s fine, and honestly, winter mornings here can feel like the beach is yours alone.
Things To See & Do
The sandy beach, situated between two limestone cliff headlands, is ideal for families, offering a large beach area and rock pools. Lifeguards patrol in season, the water is suitable for beginner surfers, and the cliffs keep the wind at bay somewhat. Out of season, it’s a different place altogether.
The rock pools at the edges are another draw. At low tide, you’ll find them teeming with crabs and little fish.
If you want time away from the sand, there’s a coastal path that links Caswell with Langland Bay, just over a mile away.
Access and Facilities
Travelling by car is simple. From Swansea, it’s around 20 minutes, depending on the time, with signs for Caswell once you’re through Mumbles. There’s a pay-and-display car park right at the beach.
Public transport is doable too. Buses run from Swansea to Oystermouth, and then you can either walk down the coast or switch buses closer to Caswell. With a dog and all the bits I carry, though, I would opt for the car.
Facilities are decent. Public toilets are located near the car park, and dog waste bins are scattered throughout. There are also cafes just off the sand that offer hot food and drinks.
