About
The beaches near St Abbs, along the rugged Scottish Borders coastline, are known for their dramatic cliffs, clear waters, and relatively secluded, rocky shores. Unlike long sandy stretches, the beaches in this area tend to be small coves and pebble-strewn patches framed by cliffs, offering a more rugged, natural beauty.
You have two beach choices: St Abbs Beach and Coldingham Bay.
Dog Access and Rules
St Abbs Beach and Coldingham Bay Beach are both g-friendly all year round, with Coldingham Bay offering better access to more sandy areas.
Things To See & Do
At St Abbs, you have two beach options:
St Abbs Beach is small and quiet alongside the harbour, with rocky outcrops and some patches of sand. It’s perfect for those seeking tranquillity and exploring tidal pools.
Coldingham Bay, a short distance south of St Abbs, is a more traditional sandy beach. It’s a favourite spot for families, surfers, and dog walkers, providing a larger sandy area for beach activities.
The walk along the Berwickshire Coastal Path between St Abbs and Coldingham Bay is lovely and will take you 15-20 minutes at a leisurely pace, depending on how much you stop and study the cliffs and views.
You also have Eyemouth Beach, a little south of St Abbs, which is worth exploring as it has more sand and facilities available.
Access and Facilities
St Abbs is easy to reach by car and just a short drive from Eyemouth. Both beaches have parking options nearby. Public transport options are more limited, so driving is recommended for easier access to this remote coastal gem.
While these beaches are natural, unspoiled locations, basic facilities are available.
