About
The Weald & Downland Living Museum is set on over 40 acres in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The Museum is a unique and vibrant open-air museum, created to preserve and celebrate the history of rural England and the ordinary people who lived it. At the heart is a large collection of historic buildings and artefacts spanning over 1,000 years, originating from the counties of Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent – the ‘Weald and Downland’ region.
A trip to the Museum gives you the perfect excuse to pack your walking boots and your four-legged friend’s (short) lead, to enjoy a walk on our 40-acre site. Dogs are welcome and can enter most of the Museum’s buildings with the exceptions of the watermill, Newdigate bakehouse, Dairy and Winkhurst Tudor kitchen, where food is prepared. Dogs are also welcome in the first section of our café and on the outdoor deck.
The museum regularly runs special events and you should always check the website for the latest details.
