About
There are plenty of dog-walking options at Halnaker Hill and the Windmill. The lane from the parking follows an ancient track along the route of Stane Street, the London to Chichester Roman road. On the way up, you will pass under the beautiful tunnel of trees, and when reaching the top, your reward is a great 360-degree view of the South Downs.
Halnaker Windmill is a grade 2 listed building that has been restored but is closed to the public. The top of Halnaker Hill is a Scheduled Ancient Monument as it is the location of a Neolithic earthwork structure known as a ’causewayed enclosure’.
There is space for several cars in the lay-by off the A285 by the entrance to Denge Lane, as per our marker on the map, but please park responsibly and not block access to the farm. Alternative parking is in nearby Boxgrove at the village hall but adds a little to the walk.
