About
Temple Newsam, a magnificent historic estate in Leeds, is a destination for dog owners looking for a blend of history, natural beauty, and outdoor space. With over 1,500 acres of parkland, woodland, and gardens, it’s a wonderful place with plenty of walking paths ranging from gentle strolls to longer hikes.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome across most of the estate. They can explore off-lead in open parkland but should remain on a lead near the formal gardens and farm areas.
Dogs are not allowed in the house, Home Farm, or cafe, with the exception of assistance dogs.
Things To See & Do
The sprawling parkland is perfect for letting your dog enjoy a good run or a leisurely sniff around. Three small ponds or lakes add to the picturesque setting for a walk. Your dog will love exploring the area.
Take your dog on an adventure through the estate’s woodland paths. These shaded trails are great for a peaceful walk and are full of exciting scents for your dog to investigate.
Access and Facilities
Temple Newsam is located on the outskirts of Leeds and is accessible by car, bus, and train. Onsite car parking is available, and if travelling by bus, several routes stop a short walk away. The train is also an option. The Cross Gates train station is about 2 miles away from the site and roughly a 30-minute walk.
It’s a great free dog-walking destination. Access to the gardens is free, but you must pay to enter the areas that don’t accept dogs, the house, and the farm.
