About
Nene Park is located along the River Nene to the west of Peterborough. It spans over 1,700 acres and includes Ferry Meadows, Thorpe Meadows, Woodston Reach, and Orton Meadows. You have miles of paths, and most are concentrated around the central area of Ferry Meadows.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome everywhere in Nene Park, and you and your four-legged friend can enjoy wonderful walks. However, some paths require dogs to be on a lead, and these are marked.
Things To See & Do
The park’s central area is Ferry Meadows, which stretches just under 10km (6 miles) along the River Nene. We recommend starting here. You can just turn up and explore, or if you want more structure, you can collect trail route guides from the visitor centre or view digital copies online. See the Nene Park website for more information.
Access and Facilities
Nene Park is easily accessible by car and train. There’s ample car parking at Nene Park Trust car parks at Ferry Meadows, Orton Meadows, Thorpe Meadows, Orton Mere and Thorpe Wood. If you’re coming by train, Peterborough Station is just a short distance away, and you can then reach the park by a quick taxi ride or a leisurely walk.
You can also get access from The Nene Valley Heritage Railway, which has Overton Station in the park.
Public toilets and a visitor centre are available around Ferry Meadows, and picnic tables are available throughout the park. You have two cafes: Ferry Meadows Cafe by the visitor centre and Lakeside Kitchen & Bar, located by Gunwade Lake; both are dog-friendly, with outdoor seating where you can enjoy a coffee or a light snack.
