About
Crooklets Beach sits just north of Bude’s centre. The beach offers wide sand, rolling waves, and a lively summer atmosphere. Most of the year, it is calm and quiet, making it one of Bude’s easiest, most enjoyable dog-walking beaches.
At low tide, the sand stretches out beautifully, giving you plenty of room to wander and explore. It’s a great mix of open bay, shallow edges and views back to the town, making it a dependable option whether you’re popping out for an hour or planning a full beach-day adventure with your dog.
The beach, subject to seasonal restrictions, is great for short walks, long low-tide rambles, and everything in between.
Start your day with a morning paddle or enjoy a relaxed sunset walk with your dog. Crooklets Beach makes it easy to slow down and enjoy time together.
Dog Access and Rules
Crooklets allows dogs all year. However, from 15th May to 30th September, dogs are not allowed between 10 am and 6 pm. Outside these times, dogs are welcome across the beach.
Most dog owners prefer early mornings, evenings, or off-season visits for a relaxed experience. In peak season, Summerleaze Beach allows dogs on leads during the day.
Always keep dogs under control near swimmers and families. Use waste bags and bins provided near entrances.
Things To See & Do
Crooklets Beach is ideal for a main outing or part of a longer Bude beach day. Both you and your dog will find variety here.
- Walk the long sandy beach at low tide. If your dog loves open space, this area is perfect for big runs.
- Let your dog paddle along the shallow shoreline at low tide. Calm days are perfect for water-loving dogs to cool off.
- Explore the rock pools near the eastern edge at low tide. Curious dogs enjoy investigating the rocks and pools.
- Walk toward Summerleaze Beach when the tide is low. This gives you more shoreline for longer walks with your dog.
- Enjoy a sunset walk. The evening beach is quieter, with calm views across the bay.
Access and Facilities
When planning your outing, you’ll also find useful amenities nearby, thanks to Crooklets’ location near Bude.
Facilities are all just behind the beach, including: car parks, public toilets, seasonal lifeguards during the summer months, cafes, surf hire and shops nearby.
Accessing the beach is easy, adding to Crooklets’ appeal: a short walk from the car parks brings you onto the sand, no steep steps nor rough terrain, making it more accessible than many cliff-backed coves.
Before you go, keep in mind that the sand narrows significantly at high tide. Checking tide times will help you make the most of your visit. While there, it’s easy to combine your walk with a trip to Bude’s cafes and shops, just steps away from the beach.
