About
Summerleaze Beach is a long, sandy shore near Bude’s town centre. It feels spacious and open, with wide sand at low tide and a gentle bay shape that welcomes dog walks.
The beach has a large breakwater on one side, whilst on the beach’s opposite side is a seawater swimming pool. Come for a morning walk, an afternoon wander with your dog, or a quiet pause by the sea — this beach adapts well to all of it.
Summerleaze Beach feels like a classic Cornish seaside day out, with broad sand, refreshing sea air and plenty of room to walk with your dog. It’s easy to reach, easy to enjoy, and good fun across most weather. Whether you’re here for a quiet wander or an energetic dog run at low tide, it’s one of Bude’s most reliable dog-friendly beaches.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome year-round, although they must be on a lead from 10 am to 6 pm from late May to the end of September
Outside these hours, and throughout the rest of the year, dogs are free to enjoy the beach.
Since Summerleaze is near a busy town and cafes, keep your dog under control around shopfronts and access points, even outside restricted hours.
Things To See & Do
Summerleaze is great for a variety of walks, whether you want a big beach walk or a gentle ramble.
Great for exploring:
- Long sandy walks at low tide.
- Running and games on firm sand.
- Wading and splashing in the shallow shoreline.
- Quieter areas away from the town end.
The beach stretches in both directions, so wander as long or as little as you like. Dogs often enjoy pacing the surf, sniffing the sea air, and cooling off in calm, shallow water.
During summer, the town end can get busy, so visit early or late for a calmer dog walk.
You can also walk around to Crooklets Beach when the tide is low, although you do need to be aware that Crooklets has a daytime dog ban in the summer.
Access and Facilities
Amenities are plentiful since Summerleaze is next to Bude town centre.
Facilities include:
- Pay-and-display car parks nearby
- Public toilets near the beach
- Cafes and takeaways are just steps from the sand
- Shops and cafes lining the seafront
- Seasonal lifeguards in summer
- Seawater pool for humans
Access to the sand is easy via gentle slopes and short steps from the promenade, ideal for carrying gear or for older dogs.
The beach narrows at high tide, so check tide times to maximise your visit.
Because Summerleaze sits in a town setting, you’re never far from a warm drink or a bite to eat, which makes it a great choice for flexible dog-friendly days out.
