About
A visit to Gunwalloe gives you access to two sandy beaches; Church Cove and Dollar Cove.
Church Cove Beach is a west-facing sandy beach with rock pools, although it has a seasonal dog ban from 1st July – 31st August between 10 am – 6 pm.
The name comes from the church set below the low cliffs at the northern end of the beach, and this has an unusual bell tower standing about 3 metres to the side of the church and cutting into the cliffside.
Poldark’s dramatic wreck scene was filmed here at Church Cove.
Dollar Cove Beach allows dogs all year, taking its name from the treasure that it’s been claimed is sometimes found here. In 1669, the San Salvador – a Spanish ship said to have been laden with silver dollars – was lost just offshore of this beach.
Parking is available at the National Trust car park, toilets, and a kiosk selling snacks and ice creams.
