Things To See & Do
Key dog walking options.
1. Helston to Stables Cafe (easiest: 2 miles / 30–40 mins one way)
- Start: Park at Helston Fairground car park (opposite boating lake, Porthleven Road).
- Route: Cross the bridge over the River Cober, follow the main path along the river edge through fields and marshy woodland. Wide, smooth trail.
- Finish: Stables Cafe at Penrose Estate – outdoor seating, dog treats, cakes/sandwiches.
- Dog notes: Popular with walkers; some dogs paddle in shallow river sections.
2. Full Loe Pool circular (12 km /3-4 hours)
- Start: Same Helston car park or Penrose Estate.
- Route: Follow lakeside paths clockwise or anticlockwise around Loe Pool through woodland (Bar Walk Plantation), parkland and reedbeds. Pass “The Points” jetties, Helston Lodge, Oak Grove.
- Dog notes: Mostly flat, surfaced paths; long-lead recommended near water/wildlife.
3. Loe Pool to Loe Bar (1–2 hours)
- From Stables Cafe, follow the signs to Loe Bar shingle beach. The beach is beautiful, but swimming is not allowed due to dangerous currents.
- Return via the same path or link to the Porthleven coastal walk (5 miles total from Helston).
