About
Pentewan Beach is a large private sandy beach with a disused harbour outside St Austell in Cornwall. Although this beach is private, out-of-season access is allowed from Pentewan village.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are not allowed on Pentewan Beach in Cornwall from March 1st until the 1st November. This makes it an off-season beach, but if you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll find several dog-friendly beaches nearby, such as Portmellon Cove, where your dog can enjoy some sandy fun.
Things To See & Do
Pentewan Beach is a spacious, sandy stretch backed by dunes and hills. It’s a former fishing port; you can still spot hints of its past in the old harbour walls. The beach is nearly a kilometre long, offering plenty of space to stretch your legs.
When visiting Pentewan Beach with your dog, there’s more to explore beyond the sand. One of the highlights is the Pentewan Valley Trail, a lovely walking and cycling route that follows an old railway line through peaceful woodlands.
If you fancy a longer adventure, head towards the South West Coast Path, which offers access to nearby beaches. The section towards Mevagissey is lovely, with clifftop paths and hidden dog-friendly coves such as Polstreath to discover.
Access and Facilities
Pentewan Beach is easily accessible by car, just a few miles from St Austell. On-site parking is available but it is small and can fill up quickly.
If you’re travelling by public transport, St Austell train station is the closest, with regular bus services connecting you to Pentewan.
Facilities at the beach are limited, but you’ll find public toilets in the village and a local shop for essentials.
