About
Perranporth Beach is on the north coast of Cornwall, not far from Newquay. It is also known as Perran Sands and, along with Penhale Dunes, forms one of the biggest beaches in this area of Cornwall. The beach is backed by a large area of dunes, including the historic sites of St Pirans Cross and St Pirans Oratory.
Dog Access and Rules
It’s dog-friendly all year round, although during July and August, between 10 am and 5 pm, they ask that dogs be on leads on the main beach. Outside those hours, it’s a free-for-all, and most people are chilled about dogs having a bit of a run.
Things To See & Do
The sand goes on forever when the tide’s out so you can walk for ages. There are caves at the far end near Droskyn Point and rock pools when the tide drops far enough.
The beach has lifeguards in summer and is pretty popular with surfers. If your dog’s into jumping over waves, they’ll have a field day here. There’s a big pub, The Watering Hole, literally on the beach that lets dogs in.
You can also take the coast path in either direction. Head right and climb up to the dunes and cliffs above the town. It’s a bit of a walk, but the views are spectacular.
Access and Facilities
A big car park is right by the beach, although it fills up fast on sunny days. A bus stops in the town centre, and it’s a short walk down to the beach, though coming back up the hill is a bit of a workout.
Toilets are next to the main beach entrance, and you have options for dog-friendly places to grab food.
If you want somewhere to stay, you have Perran Sands Holiday Park, which sits just behind the beach.
