About
Port Isaac Beach lies at the centre of one of Cornwall’s prettiest fishing villages.
This isn’t a big, open beach; it’s a small sandy and rocky patch within the harbour, surrounded by whitewashed cottages, fishing boats, and winding streets. You might recognise it from TV, best known as the location for the television comedy-drama Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes.
At low tide, more sand appears for a short wander; at high tide, the sea nearly covers the beach.
It’s not a place to linger all day. It’s a gentle stop to soak up the village atmosphere with your dog.
Dog Access and Rules
Port Isaac Beach is dog-friendly year-round.
The harbour can get busy and can be narrow, so keeping your dog close is helpful. Also, it is still a working harbour, so fishing activity and boats mean it’s not always ideal for off-lead time.
It can get very busy in summer, the streets are narrow, and leads are essential. If you’re visiting in peak hours with your dog, it’s best to enjoy the village and coastal paths.
Things To See & Do
Take a slow stroll around the harbour with your dog. It’s full of character, and there are always boats to look at.
Port Isaac’s narrow lanes are part of the adventure and a gentle workout.
Join the South West Coast Path for stunning walks in either direction. You’ll find quieter stretches where your dog can enjoy more freedom.
Access and Facilities
Port Isaac makes things easy, as long as you don’t mind a bit of a hill. From the moment you arrive, the charm of the village greets you at every winding turn.
Parking is at the main car park at the top of the village, and there is no parking directly at the harbour.
It is easy access to the beach from the harbour, but a steep walk down into the village from the car park (and back up!).
Facilities include toilets, a cafe, pubs and small shops.
