About
Polzeath is one of those beaches that feels full of life the moment you arrive.
Set on Cornwall’s north coast, it’s known for its sandy bay, rolling surf, and easy access, which makes it very popular, especially in summer.
At low tide, the beach stretches out beautifully, giving you loads of space to walk, play, or just wander with your dog beside you.
If you like a beach with a bit of everything, Polzeath delivers, though with some restrictions. If you time it right with your dog, you get the best of both worlds. Big open sand, fresh sea air, and that easy feeling of everything being close by.
And when you catch it on a quieter morning, with the tide low and the beach stretching out in front of you… It’s a pretty special place to share with your dog.
Dog Access and Rules
This is an important one to plan around.
Dogs are restricted on Polzeath Beach during peak season, between 10 am and 6 pm from 15th May to 30th September.
Outside of those hours, early mornings and evenings, dogs are welcome, even in summer. And outside the main restriction dates, it’s dog-friendly all day.
If you want a completely restriction-free option nearby, Daymer Bay is just around the corner and allows dogs year-round.
Things To See & Do
Polzeath is one of Cornwall’s most popular surf beaches. Even if you’re not getting in the water, it’s great fun to watch. At low tide, Polzeath opens up into a huge stretch of sand. Perfect for a proper leg stretch.
Around the edges of the beach, especially towards Pentire, you’ll find rock pools to explore when the tide is out.
Join the South West Coast Path for stunning walks towards Daymer Bay or Pentire Point. The views are worth every step.
Access and Facilities
One of Polzeath’s biggest strengths is how easy everything is, with direct access from village car parks.
Facilities include public toilets and plenty of cafes, restaurants and takeaway spots. You will also find surf schools, hire shops and small shops for beach essentials.
Lifeguards are on duty in peak season, but it gets busy in summer, so if you prefer quieter walks, aim for early morning or off-season visits. Nearby alternatives like Daymer Bay offer a calmer feel if needed.
