About
Port Quin isn’t your typical “bucket and spade” beach. This small, sheltered inlet sits between Port Isaac and Polzeath, surrounded by cliffs and a handful of old cottages. It feels calm, almost still at times, especially compared to the wilder Atlantic-facing beaches nearby.
At low tide, you’ll find small patches of sand mixed with rocks and seaweed. At high tide, the water fills the inlet, turning it into a quiet, glassy harbour-like space.
Dog Access and Rules
At Port Quin, dogs are welcome year-round with no seasonal restrictions.
A few things to keep in mind:
- It’s mostly rocky terrain, so take care with paws and footing.
- Keep dogs under control near the water and cliff edges.
- Be mindful of kayakers and visitors, especially in summer.
Because it’s quieter, it’s often a good choice if your dog prefers a calmer environment.
Things To See & Do
Let your dog have a wander across the rocks and sand at low tide. There’s plenty to sniff and explore, whilst the sheltered water can be calmer than open beaches, making it a nice spot for a relaxed dip.
The coastal location is where Port Quin really shines. You can head towards Pentire Point or back towards Port Isaac, with incredible views the whole way.
Access and Facilities
Port Quin keeps things very simple, so a little planning helps.
Parking is at a small National Trust car park right by the cove, from where it is a short walk to the beach.
You have no facilities. The closest options are Polzeath or Port Isaac.
