About
Portloe is one of Cornwall’s unspoilt fishing villages, with whitewashed cottages and old fishermen’s houses clustered around the narrow inlet at the bottom of a valley.
The beach lies within the harbour, which is still used by fishing boats. At low tide, you have a small, sandy cove with some shingle and a stream, whilst at high tide, little to no beach is exposed.
Dog Access and Rules
The beach is dog-friendly, but its small, enclosed space is best for calm, controlled dogs.
Dogs can sniff around the harbour or paddle, as the area suits short visits. It’s ideal for a leg‑stretch during a walk or a quick stop before or after a village meal.
Things To See & Do
Portloe sits directly on the South West Coast Path, so you can step out of the car and be on a spectacular cliff walk within minutes.
Take a short walk in either direction for great views with little effort. Or, try a longer day walk to other villages and coves, looping back inland.
These routes offer classic South Coast scenery of cliffs, coves, and sweeping sea views and can be adjusted to your and your dog’s fitness level. The paths can be narrow and steep in places, so keeping dogs close and using a lead near drops or livestock is essential.
Access and Facilities
There is a small public car park on the edge of the village, signposted as you drive in (TR2 5RQ), with a 5-minute walk down the lane to the harbour.
