About
Visiting Praa Sands with your dog is fantastic, especially if you enjoy beautiful beaches and outdoor activities. Praa Sands, located on the south coast of Cornwall, features a stunning mile-long sandy beach that is popular for its scenic beauty and range of activities.
Dog Access and Rules
Itโs important to note that Praa Sands has seasonal dog restrictions. From 1 July to 31 August, dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10 am and 6 pm. Outside of these times and dates, dogs are welcome to enjoy the beach with their owners.
Things To See & Do
Praa Sands is known for its fine, golden sand and sand dunes, ideal for dogs who love to dig and play. The beach stretches for about a mile, offering plenty of space for a game of fetch or a leisurely walk playing with other dogs.
The waters at Praa Sands are popular for surfing and swimming. While the waves can be strong, the beach is generally considered safe for swimming. If your dog enjoys water, they can paddle in the shallows, but be aware of the waves and always watch them closely.
Praa Sands sits between two headlands, offering great dog-walking opportunities along the southwest coast path. If you head westwards, you can visit Kenneggy Sands, an all-year dog-friendly beach. If you head eastwards, then Rinsey Head has a small cove which is also all-year round dog-friendly.
Access and Facilities
A paid car park is directly adjacent to the beach, making it easy to access with your dog. The car park is convenient for loading and unloading any beach gear or taking a break from the beach with your pet.
Praa Sands is well-equipped with amenities, including seasonal lifeguards, surf/beach kit hire, beachfront cafe where you can grab a bite to eat or a drink. Public toilets are also available. Some facilities may have restrictions on pets inside, so it’s good to check beforehand or use outdoor seating where available.
