About
Towan Beach sits right in the centre of Newquay, between the harbour and the cliffs below the town. It’s one of the most accessible beaches in the area, with cafes and shops just a short walk away and views across the bay towards the famous island headland.
Compared with some of Newquay’s larger beaches, Towan feels compact and lively, especially in summer. At low tide, the sand stretches further across the bay, linking towards neighbouring beaches and giving you more room to walk with your dog.
Towan is perfect for a quick sand fix, a short outing and a leisurely seaside walk rather than a long exploration. Outside peak times, it is a comfortable and convenient spot to enjoy the sea with your dog.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome year-round, with no seasonal dog ban.
Because Towan is centrally located, it can become crowded, making it a gentle walking beach rather than an off-lead runaround.
Waste bins are provided near the entrances, making it easy to clean up after your dog.
Things To See & Do
Towan is more of an everyday quick dog walk than an all‑day destination, but its central location makes it incredibly handy. Drop from the main streets to the sand for a quick lead‑walk along the water’s edge, then loop back through town for coffee.
The beach has gentler conditions than big surf on beaches like Fistral, which suits dogs who prefer shallow swimming or wading.
At low tide, you can walk from Towan across the sand towards Great Western (and sometimes further) for a longer, continuous stroll without leaving the beach.
Access and Facilities
Towan Beach is one of the easiest beaches in Newquay to reach, with town-centre parking and facilities close by.
Several pay-and-display car parks are located within a short walking distance, along with toilets and shops. Cafes and takeaways line the streets above the beach, many with outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.
Access to the sand is via steps and sloping paths from the town and harbour. While not steep, allow time for the return uphill walk.
Seasonal lifeguards usually patrol the beach, and checking tide times is worthwhile as the beach becomes much smaller at high tide.
