About
Vault Beach is a peaceful cove on Cornwall’s south coast near Gorran Haven, about 30 minutes from St Austell.
This wide sandy beach is unspoilt, surrounded by green hills and farmland, offering a quiet shoreline far from busier beaches.
At low tide, the sand extends into a broad bay, offering plenty of room for long coastal walks. The scenery is classic south Cornwall, with soft cliffs, views across St Austell Bay and a relaxed, natural atmosphere that makes it perfect for exploring with your dog.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome on Vault Beach all year round.
The spacious, quiet beach is a popular spot for local dog walkers looking for a peaceful stretch of coast where dogs are able to roam freely.
Things To See & Do
Vault Beach is ideal for a relaxed shoreline walk. At low tide, the beach widens, giving dogs plenty of space to run and explore.
The water is often calmer than Cornwall’s Atlantic beaches, making it pleasant for dogs who like to paddle.
The beach links directly with the South West Coast Path, offering scenic cliff-top walks to nearby coves and villages.
A popular route is the walk towards Gorran Haven, where you’ll find additional beaches and village cafes.
Access and Facilities
Vault Beach remains natural and undeveloped, so you have no facilities. Toilets, cafes, and pubs are in nearby villages such as Gorran Haven and Mevagissey.
The beach is accessible via a footpath from the nearby parking area at the National Trust car park. The walk from the car park to the beach takes about 10-15 minutes and involves a descent down a fairly steep path, so be prepared for the walk back to the car, which will be an uphill trek and might be tiring after a long day at the beach.
