About
Gorran Haven sits as a charming seaside village on Cornwall’s south coast, nestling in a sheltered bay about half an hour from St Austell. Its small harbour and whitewashed cottages create the feeling of a traditional Cornish fishing village, one that time has barely touched.
What makes Gorran Haven especially appealing for beach lovers is that three beaches sit within easy walking distance of the village. The main sandy bay is perfect for classic seaside visits, while two quieter coves nearby offer peaceful spots to explore.
Gorran Haven Beach, Little Perhaver Beach and Great Perhaver Beach together form a lovely stretch of coastline, inviting you to combine a village visit with a coastal walk and time by the sea.
Dog Access and Rules
All three beaches, Gorran Haven Beach, Little Perhaver Beach, and Great Perhaver Beach, allow dogs year-round. On Gorran Haven Beach, between Easter and September, they must be kept on a lead.
Things To See & Do
Gorran Haven itself is a lovely place to explore. Narrow lanes lead down to the harbour, and small shops and cafes offer a relaxed place to pause during your visit.
All three beaches are great, but you have no sand available at high tide.
- Gorran Haven Beach is a sheltered sandy beach in the village. It is known for its calm waters, protected by Dodman Point and a stone pier which forms a small harbour.
- Little Perhaver Beach is a smaller, more intimate beach that joins Gorran Haven Beach at low tide.
- Great Perhaver Beach is a sandy beach protected by cliffs just north of Gorran Haven. It is known for its clear waters, sandy shores, and interesting rock formations.
The village connects directly to the South West Coast Path. From here, you can follow the cliffs for views across St Austell Bay and discover hidden coves along the coastline. One such short walk is to Vault Beach, another dog-friendly beach with a mix of sand and shingle. It’s a quieter option if you’re looking for a more secluded spot.
Within a short drive, you can visit places such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Charlestown Harbour.
Access and Facilities
Gorran Haven Beach is in the centre of the village, where you can find cafes, shops, and a fish and chip shop. Access to Little Perhaver Beach is more challenging, down steep steps, although it is best reached at low tide, when it connects with Gorran Haven Beach.
Great Perhaver Beach has no facilities and is accessible on foot from Gorran Haven. Be prepared for a fairly steep and sometimes slippery path, but the effort is well worth it for a beach away from the crowds.
