About
Tucked away on the Cumbrian coast, Haverigg Beach is where you can let your dog go bonkers without worrying about crowds or ‘no dogs allowed’ signs. It’s got miles of open sand, dunes big enough for a game of hide and seek, and views across the Duddon Estuary that go on forever. If your dog likes running at full pelt until they suddenly remember you exist, this is the place.
Dog Access and Rules
Haverigg Beach is dog-friendly all year. Just the usual—clean up after them and put them on a lead in the dunes during bird nesting season.
Things To See & Do
The beach at Haverigg is massive, so it doesn’t feel packed even on a busy day. If the tide’s out, you can walk for what feels like miles. Just be careful near the water – some of it turns into sticky mud that’ll steal your shoes if you’re not paying attention.
Behind the beach, you’ve got sand dunes, which are part of the Hodbarrow RSPB Nature Reserve, which is all sandy paths and grassy areas.
Access and Facilities
Parking is easy with a car park right by the beach. There is no train station in Haverigg, so if you’re not driving, you’ll need to get the bus from Millom.
Facilities-wise, there’s not loads, but that’s part of the charm. A cafe near the car park does decent chips, and if you just want a drink, The Rising Sun pub on Main Street welcomes dogs inside, which is handy if the weather turns. You’ll find a few bins dotted around for dog waste. Bring a towel for the car if your dog likes rolling in wet sand.
