Piel Castle is on Piel Island and is only accessible via a small boat ferry.

The 14th-century castle was built in 1327 to protect Barrow-in-Furness against pirates and Scots raiders. The massive three-storey keep, inner and outer baileys and the towered curtain walls are still standing.

Dogs on leads are welcome.
