About
Visiting Instow Beach with your dog is an excellent choice if you’re exploring the North Devon coast. This scenic beach, located near the mouth of the River Torridge, offers a tranquil setting for both dogs and their owners.
Dog Access and Rules
Instow Beach always allows dogs but has seasonal dog restrictions where dogs are not permitted between the Quay to the South and the Boathouse to the North in July and August between 10 am and 5 pm.
Things To See & Do
Instow Beach offers a long stretch of sandy shoreline, making it ideal for leisurely walks and beach activities with your furry friend. The gentle slope into the water also provides a safe spot for dogs to wade and play in the shallows, although it’s not suitable for swimming.
The beach is a river beach within the estuary, and when the tide goes out, it becomes very large and offers some excellent walks.
The beach is backed by dunes on the estuary (rivers Taw and Torridge), offering views across the Torridge estuary, and the surrounding North Devon countryside. The picturesque setting makes it a great spot for relaxing or exploring the coastline.
Access and Facilities
Parking is available near the beach; an alternative is to catch the ferry, which runs between Instow and Appledore during the summer.
Easily accessible facilities include a range of food outlets, toilets and beach shops.
