About
Oddicombe Beach, located on the stunning English Riviera in Torquay, Devon, is a delightful dog-friendly destination perfect for coastal adventures. Its breathtaking red cliffs, calm waters, and seasonal dog access offer a mix of relaxation and exploration. In the off-season, stroll along the beach or tackle the nearby South West Coast Path.
Dog Access and Rules
Oddicombe Beach welcomes dogs but with seasonal restrictions in place. From October to April, dogs can roam freely along the beach. Dogs are not allowed during the summer months, between the 1st of May and the 30th of September.
Things To See & Do
Oddicombe is a shingle beach at the bottom of red sandstone and tree-lined cliffs. Its rich history includes its connection to Victorian holidaymakers who flocked to its shores. The historic cliff railway, built in 1926, still operates today, adding a touch of nostalgia to your visit.
During the off-season, let your dog explore the sand/shingle beach and paddle in the sea.
During the summer, when the beach is out of bounds, you can stroll to nearby Babbacombe Downs and its dog-friendly beach. If your dog loves a challenge, the South West Coast Path, which runs above the beach, provides excellent walks with spectacular sea views.
Access and Facilities
Accessing Oddicombe Beach is an adventure in itself. For those arriving by car, there’s street parking available near Babbacombe Downs (postcode TQ1 3LF), which requires a short walk to reach the beach. Public transport links are also excellent, with buses stopping nearby.
Once you arrive, you can descend via the historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway, which is dog-friendly and a delightful ride. Alternatively, a steep zig-zag pathway leads down to the beach.
Oddicombe Beach is well-equipped. There’s a cafe where you can grab a coffee or a light lunch, with outdoor seating available for you and your dog. Public toilets, including accessible facilities, and beach huts and deckchairs are available for hire during the summer.
