Things To See & Do
Don’t think of Chapman’s Pool as a quick beach stop.
This is a walk, not just a beach visit, and is probably the most important thing to know before visiting.
Depending on your starting point and route, you’re looking at a proper countryside and coastal walk.
The typical direct walk starts at Worth Matravers and takes about 30 minutes each way, although the descent is steep in places. But you can vary it with many options around the coastal paths in this area. So choose your route based on your dog’s ability as well as your own.
The walks take you through the Purbeck countryside before descending towards the coast. The cliffs rise around the bay, whilst the final descent can be steep and slippery, particularly after wet weather, so good walking footwear is essential.
I’d also be wary of attempting it after prolonged heavy rain.
When you reach the beach, all you have is a natural bay with no facilities. It’s a lovely place to stop and let your dog enjoy the reward at the end of the walk.
Access and Facilities
The beach has no facilities, and the nearest car parks are a 30-minute coastal walk away at Worth Matravers (BH19 3LE) or the Renscombe car park (BH19 3LL).
The nearest place for a drink and food is Worth Matravers, which also has a dog-friendly pub, The Square & Compass.
