About
Church Ope Cove Beach is a dog-friendly pebble beach with beach huts and a small stream on Portland’s eastern side, near Weymouth. At low tide, you’ll find several rock pools and some sand.
The south-facing beach is sheltered, with cliffs on three sides, and is a popular diving location with great access to the many wrecks off Portland. Rufus Castle (privately owned) overlooks the cove, and the sheltered aspect makes it one of the warmer spots on Portland.

Are dogs allowed on Church Ope Cove Beach? Yes, dogs are allowed year-round, with no restrictions. Pebbles mean it’s not for running, but it’s great for exploring the rock pools.

Access and Facilities
There are no facilities on the beach itself. Car parking is off Pennsylvania Road (signed “Museum Church Ope”), a short walk away, with seasonal toilets and a cafe nearby.
Because parking is a little way away and the route to the beach involves a walk through a wood, a graveyard, and then down stone steps, the beach is rarely busy.
