Ham Common Nature Reserve is located on the edge of Poole Harbour, offering stunning views of the water and beyond. This beautiful spot is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its diverse habitats, including heathland, woodland, and salt marshes.
Dog Access and Rules
This is a nature reserve, and dogs must always be under close control. They must be on a short lead near livestock and during the bird breeding season, which runs from 1 March to 31 July.

There’s no shortage of activities to enjoy at Ham Common. The winding trails take you by the lake, through heathland, woodland, and along the water’s edge. The variety of terrains keeps things interesting for both you and your dog.
While walking, watch for wading birds, butterflies, and other local wildlife. Some trails lead to dog-friendly beach areas along Poole Harbour, where your dog can paddle and enjoy the salty sea breeze.
Access and Facilities
Located near Poole, Ham Common is easily accessible. Parking is available at Lake Drive or the viewpoint car park on Napier Road Rockley Park. Local bus routes stop nearby, and Hamworthy train station is within walking distance.
