About
Kingston Lacy is a National Trust estate in Dorset that provides an idyllic, dog-friendly setting for an outing that combines historical intrigue with the joy of outdoor adventure.
Dog Access and Rules
Kingston Lacy welcomes dogs in its expansive parkland. While dogs are not permitted in the formal gardens or house, the surrounding woodland and open fields offer plenty of space to explore. Dogs should be kept on a lead around grazing livestock and the main visitor areas.
Assistance dogs are only allowed in the cafe, house, and formal garden.
Things To See & Do
Kingston Lacy is nestled near Wimborne Minster in Dorset, surrounded by charming countryside and accessible from nearby towns like Blandford Forum. The estate dates back to the 17th century and was built by Sir Ralph Bankes after his original home, Corfe Castle, was destroyed during the Civil War. His descendant William John Bankes, built the house we see today in the mid-1800s.
Although you can’t access the house or formal gardens, the estate has over 8,500 acres of countryside. Several marked trails around the estate, from short walks to longer, scenic routes perfect for stretching your legs and taking in the landscape.
Access and Facilities
Kingston Lacy is located on the B3082 between Wimborne Minster and Blandford Forum, with clear signage for drivers approaching the estate. Parking is available on-site. If you’re coming by public transport, regular bus services from Bournemouth and Poole run to nearby Wimborne Minster, where a taxi can take you directly to the estate.
Near the entrance, the cafe offers a selection of light bites and refreshments, and outdoor seating is available for visitors with dogs.
