Things To See & Do
Weymouth is one of the most popular destinations on the Dorset coast. It is known for its sheltered bay, golden sands, and lively atmosphere. As well as the obvious beach, the seafront has a mix of historic buildings, cafes, and attractions, making it an excellent spot for a day out with your dog.
Weymouth Beach is approximately a three-mile stretch, offering a variety of beach sections that cater to different needs and preferences. From the bustling main beach to the quieter areas of Greenhill, Lodmoor, and Overcombe, there is something for everyone, including dog owners looking for a place to enjoy.
The Weymouth five beach stretches:
- Main Beach: This section is the most popular and busiest part of Weymouth Beach, characterised by its fine golden sand and shallow waters. It is not a peak season dog stretch, ideal for families and tourists, offering deckchair rentals, beach huts, and various water sports.
- Greenhill Beach: This area is quieter and more relaxed than the main beach. It has a mix of sand and pebbles and is popular with locals, although still not dog-friendly. Greenhill Gardens, located adjacent to this section, offers beautiful landscaped gardens and tennis courts.
- Lodmoor Beach: This pebbly beach offers a more natural and less crowded environment. It is adjacent to Lodmoor Nature Reserve, which features dog-friendly trails.
- Overcombe Beach: Overcombe Beach is known for its pebbly shore and is popular with windsurfers and water sports enthusiasts due to its excellent conditions for these activities. It is quieter than the main beach and offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
- Bowleaze Cove: The last part of the Weymouth seafront it is a sand and pebble beach located under Furzy Cliff. The cove is probably more well known for Fantasy Island Fun Park, which does not allow dogs.
