About
Skipsea Castle sits on the East Yorkshire coast, tucked back from the sea. What you’ll notice first is the huge mound, which is what’s left of the Norman motte. The mound is large – 278 feet (85 metres) in diameter and 42 feet (13 metres) high.
If you want a simple, calm stop with a bit of history and space for your dog to mooch freely, Skipsea Castle does the job nicely. The open countryside around Skipsea makes for easy walking, especially if your dog likes having space without too many crowds.
Dog Access and Rules
There are no set rules about dogs, as the site is an open historic area with public access. Normal good sense applies: keep dogs close to you, bag any mess, and avoid letting them run over any protected bits of the earthworks.
Access and Facilities
You reach Skipsea Castle through the village of Skipsea, following small country roads. Parking isn’t formal; there’s roadside space near the entrance, enough for a quick stop.
There are no facilities on the site itself
