Dovercourt Bay Beach is a sand and shingle beach that gently shelves into the sea and has two cast-iron lighthouses known as Dovercourt Range Lights one on the beach and one off-shore linked by a causeway.
Dovercourt Beach has areas of the beach allowing dogs all year and other areas with a seasonal dog ban between 1st May and 30th September. The areas you are not allowed to access are in the north from Mill Lane subway to the end of the promenade at Spa Cabins, and in the south from the slipway southwest of Swimming Pool to Upper Lighthouse, southwest of Beach Road.
Dovercourt is well known for the location of the BBC sitcom set in the 1950’s, Hi-De-Hi Maplins Holiday Park. The series ran from 1980 to 1988.
Facilities at the beach include a cafe, restaurant, shops, beach huts, car parking, toilets, disabled facilities including access to the beach, slipway, promenade.
