About
Afon Wen beach is a mix of shingle and sand, although at high tide, you just have a pebble bank. It’s not a traditional seaside beach; the appeal is more about:
- quiet walks
- natural scenery
- space for dogs to run
- coastal views
- slower-paced exploring
If you enjoy wilder, less commercial beaches, it’s a lovely spot.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed on Afon Wen Beach year-round, with no seasonal restrictions. It’s considered one of the quieter dog-friendly beaches on the Llŷn Peninsula, which makes it ideal if your dog prefers open space and fewer crowds.
Access and Facilities
Not the easiest of beaches to get to, but that is why it remains unspoilt. At the end of a narrow road from the A497, you will get to a railway bridge with a few on-road spots. Just be careful not to block the road or other visitors.
You will then need to walk down a short, narrow track beside the river to the beach, but be aware that you have no facilities, so you will need to bring everything you need with you.
