Visiting Hill Head Beach near Portsmouth with your dog is a wonderful day out, especially if you enjoy coastal walks. Hill Head is located on the coast of Hampshire and is known for its stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed on Hill Head Beach, but there are seasonal restrictions on the main part of the beach. During the summer months, from May 1st to September 30th, dogs are restricted in the area bounded by the slipway at Hill Head Sailing Club and the footpath at the end of the beach huts on the promenade.
Dogs are allowed on the promenade all year but must be on a lead.
Things To See & Do
Hill Head Beach is primarily a pebble and shingle beach, with some sandy areas at low tide. It’s ideal for long walks along the water’s edge.
The beach is popular for sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing, so it’s a great spot if you enjoy watching or participating in watersports.
The area is known for its beautiful views and is a fantastic spot for bird-watching. The Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve is nearby but does not allow dogs other than along the public footpath beside the canal.
Access and Facilities
There is parking available near the beach, including a main car park close to the beachfront. The beach has basic facilities, including toilets and a cafe near the beach where you can grab a snack or a drink.
