About
Lepe feels different to most New Forest walks, and that’s part of its appeal. Sea air, open paths, and views across the Solent create a sense of space that’s hard to find elsewhere in the Forest.
Here we have a mile of beach backed by pine-fringed cliffs, historic D-Day remains, and wildflower meadows. From the cliffs above the beach, you can see right across the western Solent.
Dog Access and Rules
For dogs, the mix of open parkland and beach creates interest. The beach welcomes dogs year-round, except in the family-friendly section, which they can access only from October to March.
Things To See & Do
The beach is sand and shingle, with good facilities, and, for those interested in fossils, the interglacial deposit with elephant remains is fascinating, as is the variety of rocks brought in for sea defences.
If you want a more formal walk, the waymarked Lepe Loop, around 5 miles, is a great option. This route links the shoreline at Lepe with quieter inland paths, gentle farmland edges, and long, easy-going tracks.
Access and Facilities
Facilities include parking, toilets, a restaurant/cafe and a shop.
The Lookout offers seasonal food with panoramic views of the Solent and welcomes well-behaved dogs.
