About
Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland, is located on the northwest coast of the Isle of Skye. It has been the ancestral home of the MacLeod clan for over 800 years. The castle is steeped in history and boasts beautiful architecture, stunning gardens, and breathtaking views over Loch Dunvegan.
Dog Access and Rules
Dunvegan Castle Gardens are dog-friendly, but dogs must always be on a lead. While the gardens welcome dogs, please note that only registered assistance dogs are permitted in all public areas of the castle.
Things To See & Do
The five acres of formal gardens surrounding the castle include flower beds, a water garden, a walled garden, winding paths, and views over the loch. Whilst at the loch, look for wildlife, including seals, which can often be spotted in the waters around the castle.
Various walking trails near the castle provide an excellent opportunity for more exercise. The coastal paths offer stunning landscape views, and your dog will love the open spaces to roam.
Access and Facilities
Dunvegan Castle is easily accessible by car. There is a large car park available for visitors. If you’re travelling from Portree, it’s approximately a 30-minute drive. The castle is well-signposted, making it straightforward to find.
