Llanddwyn Bay has one of the most picturesque beaches in Anglesey, North Wales, known for its sand and clear waters. The adjacent Llanddwyn Island, a tidal island, adds a unique charm with its rich history and breathtaking views. It’s a dog-friendly destination that offers adventure, relaxation, and exploration.
Llanddwyn Beach is also known as Newborough Beach.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are not allowed on the western part of Llanddwyn Beach between May 1st and September 30th.
This does mean you have the eastern part of the beach all year round, and dogs on leads are allowed on the public paths of Llanddwyn Island.
Things To See & Do
Llanddwyn Island and Beach is part of the Newborough Warren National Nature Reserve.
- Beach Walks and Play: Let your dog enjoy the freedom of running on the sand and splashing in the shallow waters. The beach is perfect for a game of fetch or stroll.
- Exploring Newborough Forest: Just behind the beach lies Newborough Forest, with its extensive network of walking trails. Your dog will love the new scents and sights in this enchanting woodland.
- Visiting Llanddwyn Island: Cross the dunes to reach Llanddwyn Island during low tide. Explore the island’s historical sites, such as the old lighthouse and the ruins of St. Dwynwen’s Church. Dogs must be on a lead here to protect the local wildlife.
Access and Facilities
Facilities include parking, toilets and picnic areas.
To reach the island, you can walk along the beach or head through the forest instead. This is a lovely walk with occasional glimpses of the lighthouse through the trees. Llanddwyn Island is accessible only at low tide, and you will need to plan your visit accordingly to ensure you can explore the island without getting stranded.
