Malltraeth Bay is where the sandy estuary (Malltraeth Sands) of the River Cefni meets the sea. Past the estuary’s spit, the bay opens to the sea, with Llanddwyn Island sheltering it to the south. At low tide, you can walk over to Llanddwyn Island.
The beach is a sandy beach backed by Newborough Forest.
During low tide, you have a vast expanse of sand, perfect for long dog walks, beachcombing, and picnics. However, be cautious of incoming tides, as they can move fast and cut off sections of the beach.
At lower tides, you can see what remains of the brig Athena. The ship ran into trouble during a winter storm in December 1852. It was sailing from Alexandria, Egypt, to Liverpool.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed on Malltraeth Bay (Malltraeth Sands) Beach year-round, but they should be on a lead to protect wildlife around the island.

Access and Facilities
The beach has no facilities and you need to be prepared for a good walk as the car park is a kilometre away in Newborough Forest and any visit will really combine Malltraeth Bay, Llanddwyn Bay and Newborough Forest.
