Dog Access and Rules
Folkestone has four main beach stretches with varying beach restrictions:
- East Cliff and The Warren: Dogs are welcome year-round at The Warren, making it an ideal destination for a more natural and less crowded beach experience.
- Sunny Sands Beach: Dogs are not allowed from May 1st to September 30th.
- Mermaids Beach: Dogs are not allowed from May 1st to September 30th.
- Sandgate Beach: From May 1st to September 30th, dogs are not allowed between Sandgate Castle and Princes Parade junction.
Things To See & Do
Folkestone offers a great selection of beaches to explore with your dog from a small sandy beach to pebble beaches and remote cliff beaches:
- East Cliff and The Warren is a more rugged and natural beach area located east of Folkestone within a country park. It features a mix of sand, pebbles, and rocky areas surrounded by dramatic cliffs.
- Sunny Sands Beach is the only sandy beach, located near the harbour, making it popular and busy.
- Mermaids Beach is a pebble beach located below the Lower Leas Coastal Park. You reach it by walking down diagonally sloped paths from the park. It is a great place to go for a swim, sunbathing, or enjoying a picnic. It is also known as Folkestone Beach.
- Sandgate Beach is a pebble beach located on the western outskirts of Folkestone.

These beaches are all close to Folkestone and so you have all the facilities expected of a major seaside town.
