About
Tucked away just outside Blackpool, Cala Gran Holiday Park sits on the Lancashire coast like it’s been there forever, quietly getting on with it. It’s not flashy. You won’t find golden gates or flaming cocktails. But it’s well worth a look if you’re after a solid place to take the dog (and the kids, if you’ve got ’em). It’s the sort of park where you feel like you don’t need to pretend to be on your best behaviour all the time – dogs included.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed in the accommodation, the outdoor areas of the park, and the outdoor restaurant terrace, provided they are on a lead. You can even bring well-behaved dogs into designated areas of the main restaurant.
What's On Offer
Cala Gran has everything you need. There’s an indoor pool with a slide, a decent arcade bit, a soft play area, a takeaway chippy, and a small shop. The Mash & Barrel does pub food, and you have a Papa Johns if you fancy a pizza. Outside is a playground, a splash zone, crazy golf, footgolf, and a sports court.
There’s also a big grassy area around the back of the site. Although not officially a dog field, it was popular with dogs every morning, and no one seemed fussed.
Things To See & Do
Nearby Rossall Beach is dog-friendly all year round, and Fleetwood Beach has some seasonal restrictions. They are not the prettiest beaches in the UK, but they are big, open and perfect for off-lead runs. The sand’s quite hard-packed, so easy on the paws.
Blackpool’s not far, but you can walk along the prom (dogs are allowed on the tram if you’re not up for the walk). Dogs aren’t allowed on the central beaches during summer, but the North Beach has some access. There’s a cracking walk at Rossall Point, which is a bit wilder, and the viewing tower’s worth a stop if it’s open.
A little nature reserve behind the holiday park offers paths, ponds and fields to explore.
Access and Facilities
Cala Gran is just off the A585, north of Blackpool. You can drive in easily from the M55, about 20 minutes if traffic moves. Parking is free and right next to the caravans, which helps if your dog doesn’t like being left alone while you unload. You can get the train to Poulton-le-Fylde and grab a taxi or bus if you don’t drive, but we think you will be limited once at the holiday park and would recommend a car.
There are a few local shops and takeaways nearby.
