About
Gorleston Beach, located on the Norfolk coast near Great Yarmouth, is a fantastic destination for a day out with your dog. Known for its wide sandy shores, picturesque views, and dog-friendly atmosphere, Gorleston Beach offers plenty of activities and amenities for you and your furry friend. Here’s what you can expect when visiting Gorleston Beach with your dog:
Dog Access and Rules
Gorleston Beach is known for being dog-friendly. However, there are restrictions in the summer between 1 May and 30 September. Outside of the summer season months, there are no restrictions on what part of the beach dogs can walk on.
During the restrictions, dogs are not allowed on the main tourist sections of the beach opposite the promenade. However, if you head south, you move away from the busy section, and the area is fine for walking your dog on the beach. Dogs must be kept on a lead on the promenade.
Things To See & Do
Gorleston-on-Sea is a lovely, family-focused traditional seaside resort less busy than Great Yarmouth to the North.
The sandy beach is very long and wide at low tide, but when the tide is in, the sandy area is limited. The beach is backed by promenades and gardens, and as you head south, it switches to grass-covered cliffs, where you have the all-round dog-friendly stretch.
The lovely promenade is ideal for a dog walk (on a lead) when the tide is in, or you want an alternative to the sand. It offers beautiful views of the beach and the sea, making it a pleasant route for a leisurely walk.
Gorleston-on-Sea is separated from Great Yarmouth by the river and has a pier, but this is just a promenade on a river breakwater. You also have Pier Gardens, a nice green space beside the beach.
Access and Facilities
Parking, toilets with disabled facilities, shops, cafes, amusements, children’s paddling pool, pitch and putt, bowling greens, tennis and basketball courts, lifeguards in the summer, promenade and grass areas. The town centre is just five minutes away.
