Redcar has around 12km (8 miles) of beaches that run northwards towards Tees estuary and southwards from the town to Saltburn.
In the town, you have Redcar Beach itself, backed by a traditional seaside esplanade, which is where you will find most facilities, including a pier and amusements. As you head away from the town, the beach areas become quieter and more natural.
Running north from Redcar Beach, you have Coatham Sands, a long stretch of sand backed by dunes. Just around the tip and in the mouth of the Tees Estuary, you have Bran Sands, a sandy beach with marsh and mud flats. The dune system and marshes are a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Moving south from Redcar, you have the small Granville Beach, which is still in the town before hitting the long stretch of sand, starting as Stray Beach before joining Marske Sands and finishing at Saltburn.
Dogs are allowed on Redcar beaches all year but during the peak season between the 1st May and 30th Sept, you do have exclusion zones where dogs are not allowed. These are signed and roughly match the main town elements of the beach in Redcar, Marske and Saltburn.
There are lots of parking locations and places to eat along this Redcar stretch of coastline.
