About
Corbridge was founded at the crossroads of two Roman thoroughfares well before Hadrian began building the Wall. It developed from a fort to become the most northerly town in the Roman Empire, providing goods and services to the garrisons on Hadrian’s Wall.
Today, it houses one of the most important Roman collections in Britain, and many of the objects offer a fascinating insight into life in a Roman town.
A good option when combined with Aydon Castle, another nearby English heritage site.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs on leads are welcome only in the grounds. You will need to have one person wait outside whilst others look at the museum.
What's On Offer
You can still walk the original surface of its Roman main street, flanked by the remains of town buildings.
The museum contains a wide range of items that cover every aspect of Roman life, including the Corbridge Hoard. Buried in the 2nd century AD, the hoard is a soldier’s trunk containing his worldly goods, very much like a time capsule.
Audio tour included in admission price.
Access and Facilities
You have a small car park, although the site is a stroll from Corbridge itself.
Facilities include toilets, a gift shop with a vending machine, a picnic area and a museum.
