Things To See & Do
Situated on the iconic Northumberland coast, Howdiemont Sands and Sugar Sands are adjacent to each other. This stretch of coastline is part of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, renowned for its untouched landscapes and historical significance. While the beaches have a quieter profile, they contribute to the area’s long-standing reputation as a destination for those seeking a natural setting without bright lights.
From meandering along the sandy beach to exploring the nearby dunes, these beaches provide a peaceful environment for leisurely walks. Dogs can splash in the gentle waves or sniff the diverse coastal vegetation.
Access and Facilities
Getting to Howdiemont and Sugar Sands is not easy and involves a walk. You will need to park in one of the surrounding villages, Longhoughton, Boulmer, or Howick and then walk to the beaches. Just be careful that all these villages are small and be considerate of the residents.
As these are remote beaches, there are no facilities, and you will need to bring all your supplies. This simplicity adds to the beach’s charm, making it a spot where nature takes centre stage.
