Things To See & Do
Dingieshowe links the mainland to the Deerness peninsula. The bay is renowned for its broad sandy beach and extensive sand dunes, which are a defining feature of the landscape.
Dingieshowe is steeped in history and is believed to have been the location of a Viking Thing (assembly site). It served as a meeting point where important decisions were made and justice was administered.
Taracliff Bay alongside, features rocky shores and a smaller beach area, surrounded by a more rugged coastal scenery typical of Orkney. The bay’s terrain is more challenging than Dingieshowe, making it ideal for those looking for a more adventurous outing. Hiking along the cliffs offers dramatic views of the sea and the rugged coastline.
You also have on the other side of the road the shallow sandy bay of St Peter’s Pool.
