About
Visiting Minehead Beach with your dog is a fantastic way to enjoy the stunning Somerset coastline. Minehead offers a mix of sandy shores, scenic views, and dog-friendly amenities. Here’s a guide to help you make the most of your visit:
Dog Access and Rules
The beach is divided into different sections, each with its own set of rules regarding dog access.
- Summer (May 1st to September 30th): Dogs are restricted from the main central beach from the area in front of The Jubilee Cafe to Minehead Golf course during this period. However, they are allowed on the beach area east of the golf course and between the Jubilee Cafe and the Harbour.
- Winter (October 1st to April 30th): Dogs are welcome on the entire beach without any restrictions.
Things To See & Do
Minehead Beach is a popular destination located on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Also known as The Strand, the beach is a curving sandy beach that becomes more pebbly as you approach the harbour, making it ideal for walking, playing, and relaxing with your dog. The all-year-round dog-friendly rocky areas near the harbour are great for exploring, especially during low tide when rock pools are exposed.
Take a stroll along Minehead’s charming promenade, which offers beautiful sea views and access to various shops and cafes. Many of these have outdoor seating areas where dogs are welcome.
For a scenic more energetic hike, head to North Hill, which offers panoramic views of the coastline and town. This area provides excellent walking trails, perfect for an adventurous outing with your dog away from the beach.
Access and Facilities
The beach has a large promenade with a selection of cafes, restaurants, bars, and shops.
