About
Visiting Portishead Beach with your dog is a great idea if you’re looking to enjoy some time by the water in the lovely coastal town of Portishead, and one of the nearest beaches to Bristol. While Portishead isn’t renowned for traditional sandy beaches, it offers a pleasant coastal experience with its own unique charm.
Things To See & Do
The coastline at Portishead primarily consists of rocky areas and shingle, making it ideal for exploring rock pools and enjoying scenic walks rather than traditional beach activities like sunbathing or sandcastle building. If you are looking for a sandy beach, you will need to head down the coast to the likes of Weston-Super-Mare.
Adjacent to the beach area is the famous Portishead Open Air Pool, an iconic heated lido that offers a fantastic swimming experience in a beautiful setting overlooking the Severn Estuary.
The area around Portishead Marina offers beautiful coastal walks. You and your dog can enjoy expansive views across the Severn Estuary and, on a clear day, over to the South Wales coast. The path is well-maintained and suitable for leisurely strolls or more energetic walks.
The beach is also known as Kilkenny Bay or Woodhill Bay after the two bays that form this stretch of beach up to Battery Point.
Access and Facilities
There is ample parking available in Portishead, including near the marina and along the coastal paths.
Facilities at the beach include a car park and parking on the road, an open-air pool, cafes, and toilets at either end of the beach.
